This station is unbelievable but, a few things have changed since this station was first announced. it was to be a 2 disc space and the 2 films were to be the colorized versions. What this area has is objective 1 DVD and so both movies are on 1 disc and in sunless and white. The aid of the DVD case shows the colorized photos which makes you mediate the films are the color versions. The menus also exhibit colorized photos. The VHS versions which are in color looked very estimable but for some reason Universal decided to not include them.

The accurate prize of this DVD is the extra, which is Shirley’s very first movie and which has NEVER before been available on VHS or DVD or 16MM or any other format. “THE Puny PAGE”.Shirley is not shown powerful at all during the 10 minutes this film runs. She is shown suitable after the opening credits and then again during the last 3 minutes. She is very adorable here and, for this first film short, she is wearing only shorts, she would be covered up more in her next 7 berlesk film shorts.
In this film short, she is aware of the camera and theres a few times where she is looking at it. She is so very adorable in her scenes and its incredible that at this time she was 3 years former!
You will really luxuriate in this film short as well as the 2 movies which are in orderly quality!

I cringed when I realized that these Paramount gems had been rereleased by Universal, but I needn’t have panicked. Contrary to the review previous to this one, the prints peer and sound quite salubrious, even–incredibly–The Cramped Page, which is the oldest feature on the disk. The captions are, for once, quite upright, and I fill there are some other language options as well.
On the downside, the only insert is an ad for other titles in the series–no hard-copy chapter list. It also seems to me that perhaps commentary by Mrs. Shaded (Temple’s married moniker) might have added value to the package.
If you’re not familiar with Shirley Temple, be warned: you’re about to contemplate a full-fledged phenomenon. Shirley Temple is one of the most great women ever born, and is certainly the greatest child star of all time. Sadly, she–despite her subsequent political achievments–is virtually never cited for her mighty accomplishments by advocates of women’s groups, presumably because her political beliefs are “erroneous.” My response to this (and to them) is “phooey.” Her husband was once quoted as saying that he believes his wife “is some kind of deity”; discover her do her stuff and choose for yourself.
Now, isn’t it about time for Fox to do factual by the dinky dynamo who single-handedly took them out of the red during the Stout Depression?

Ten years after this series premiered, I am only now finally beginning to peruse “Stargate SG-1.” I had always liked the 1994 movie, but never really belief that it needed continuation, and beginning watching this season only after I promised a friend I would give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. I have not seen any further “SG1″ seasons yet, so forgive me if I don’t know where stuff is going yet (I thought on starting Season Two soon) .

The first episode is a squawk sequel to the 1994 film. It turns out that Ra wasn’t the only remarkable alien out to enslave humanity, and another one (named Apophis) has arrived to kidnap humans to befriend as hosts for this base rush (given the name of the Goa’uld) . In the first episode, the Goa’uld kidnap loved ones of Jack O’Neill and Daniel Jackson from the first movie– Jack’s friend and Daniel’s wife– and gain them. The rest of the season concerns the “Stargate team” SG-1’s attempts to track down Apophis so those two can rescue their loved ones, but of course, this being a TV series, this main status is deviated from quite a bit (for better and worse) . O’Neill and Jackson are joined on SG-1 by the shining Samantha Carter, and the alien Teal’c, a weak Apophis servant who’s betrayed his master to benefit the people of Earth.
Apparently this season has a terrible reputation amongst “Stargate” fans who appreciate the better seasons to near, but I found this to be a very effective introduction. Since it’s the first season, many episodes focus on developing the team, and create them more empathetic to the audience. For example, O’Neill has unfinished business with his dreary son that haunts him (shown in “Cool Lazarus”), and Jackson continually laments the loss of his wife (most notably in “Thor’s Hammer” and “Fire and Water”) . We also accept to view the soft sides of the normally hard-headed Carter (in “Singularity”) and the normally emotionless Teal’c (in “Bloodlines” and “Cor-Ai”), and Teal’c in particular is frightened by the crimes he committed while serving Apophis.

Of course, character development aside, the reveal is best watched for the action and adventure, and this season often delivers. The first episode “Children of the Gods” serves as an effective bridge between the movie and note (although those with a old-fashioned stomach should occupy note– the Goa’uld possession scenes are graphic from both a nudity sense and a grotesque sense) . “Thor’s Hammer” is probably the most quick-witted and satisfying episode of the season; not only does it have colossal character development, but it also introduces a frosty recent urge (the Norse) and a horrible villain in the invent of Unas, who’s voiced by no less than the God of movie villain voices, James Earl Jones. “The Torment of Tantalus” introduces frosty arcs for both Jackson and Catherine, a minor character from the “Stargate” movie. “The Nox” and “Bloodlines” are qualified action episodes. “There But For the Grace of God” is a frigid novel twist on the primitive “alternate universe” sci-fi cliché. And “Within the Serpent’s Capture” is a gigantic cliffhanger that effectively sets up Season Two, which I can’t wait to commence.
Between these huge episodes, we collect the expected groaners as well. “Emancipation” is both pointless and an sad throwback to the stale “colored tribe demands white woman” stereotype. “Hathor”– with its “sexy alien woman seduces the men and the women have to kick ass” plotline– is amusing fun, but also contains some wretched out-of-character moments and unfortunate subtexts (why isn’t Jackson more upset that he’s helped to invent more of the urge that he wants to wipe out, even if he “wasn’t himself” at the time? ) “Politics” is a renowned “flashback” episode, although it introduces some appetizing human villains into the series. “Tin Man” is an annoying play on Asimov, even if it has a icy twist at the kill. Overall, the season borrows quite a bit from Star Skedaddle (Examples: virus that ages people snappily, aliens possessing humans, unstable body doubles being created, God-like aliens shaking their heads at the funny antics of humans and their enemies), although this can be forgiven with the argument that Star Trek’s been around so long it’s probably done everything possible in sci-fi. Apophis, although scary in the first episode, seems to procure more campy as the season goes along. Finally, O’Neill makes a decision at the kill of the final episode that’s a bit head-scratching (wasn’t there a diagram to disable that person without killing him? )
In spite of its flaws, the first season of “Stargate SG-1″ is immense fun, and recommended to all sci-fi fans. I can’t wait to originate Season Two, I feel so far tedious everyone…
Most TV shows spun off from movies are uninvolving and monotonous (“Blade,” anyone? ), and hopefully die and are forgotten.
That wasn’t the case with the spinoff of the 1995 movie “Stargate,” an okay science fiction movie that spawned an generous television series, “Stargate SG-1.” The first season is not nearly as incandescent as the ones that followed it, but it’s a welcome change from distant situation operas — wonderful writing, acting, and a sense of humor about itself and its characters.
The Stargate has been lazy for a year — until it is activated, and a bunch of Egyptian-styled warriors reach through and kidnap a young officer. General Hammond (Don S. Davis) pulls Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) out of retirement to learn what really happened on the planet of Abydos, and where these mysterious aliens have reach from.
O’Neill and a microscopic team go to Abydos and gather Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) who has been learning about a gargantuan network of Stargates over the past year. But when Daniel’s wife Sha’re and brother-in-law Skaara are abducted by the same warriors, O’Neill, Jackson and Air Force scientist Sam Carter (Amanda Tapping) expend the Stargate to venture to where they’re being kept.
What they regain is an alien run who inhabits human hosts, the Goa’uld, and their ruthless slave warriors, the Jaffa. Carter, O’Neill and Jackson are captured by the noteworthy Apophis — but to race, they must have the assist of an unlikely ally: Teal’c (Christopher Mediate), Apophis’ First Prime. Since Earth has now annoyed the Goa’uld, several exploration teams are formed to go through the Stargate and regain weapons and allies.

The first season of “Stargate SG-1″ isn’t the most impressive, though the last three episodes hint at the series’ future greatness. And thankfully, it drops the usual site opera stuff — instead we salvage Stargates, actual military, and a very plausible reason why everybody in the galaxy (more or less) looks impartial like us.
It’s graced with kitschy Egyptian-styled sets, lots of shoot-em-up action from Marines and Air Force, and plenty of planets influenced by Earth cultures, like the Minoans and the Vikings. Best of all is the mercurial dialogue, mostly from the tart-tongued O’Neill (“Temperature–ground 1700 degrees Fahrenheit. Air–seems to be in pockets, ranging from 1500 degrees down to 200.” “Sounds like LA”) .
And the makers add some poignant and/or warm scenes, such as the interested Abydonian teenagers celebrating with O’Neill and his pals, Teal’c reunion with his outcast family, or Sam bonding with a doomed small girl. All the characters find these moments, which really makes them seem human.
Instead of Kurt Russell’s suicidal O’Neill from the movie, Anderson does a quirky, disrespectful, pop culture-lovin’ guy with a hidden tragic past — his “Cool Lazarus”double role is one of the best of the exhibit. Tapping and Shanks are also gargantuan, as an involved geek and a intelligent, beneficial military woman. Sadly Assume gets shortchanged as the stern, excellent Teal’c, but he’s knowing when he’s spotlighted.
The first season of “Stargate SG-1″ is not the best of the series, but it’s smooth a solid, imaginative sci-fi yarn with some ample writing and even better acting. A must-have for sci-fi buffs.

My first viewing of “AKIRA” was relieve in 1993. I have to be truthful, it was one of those films that I had to look several times because I felt I was missing something integral. Each time I watched the film, there was always something novel that I picked up and for anyone who has seen this spellbinding film, honest how grand was attach into the animation, the detail for an racy film.
In 1988, Disney had “Oliver & Friends” and being touted as the first animation to spend hand drawn art and computerized graphics and as the film incorporated some darkness that may terror the kiddies, in Japan, “AKIRA” was a film that would position records in the Summer and eventually net a minute release in theaters.

The film would surprise and shock people because this was not a children’s animation, this was geared for adults. And did it study awesome at that time!
Flash forward over 20-years later for the Blu-ray release!
VIDEO & AUDIO:
For one, the film is now in 1080p and 16×9. Having seen this film evolve with each release from the VHS to LaserDisc and then DVD and now Blu-ray, for a film created wait on in 1988, “AKIRA” unbiased looked fantastic.
From the action scenes and impartial watching it on a mammoth camouflage, I was amazed of how substantial it looked. Again, this is a 1988 release and I compared it to Disney’s “Oliver & Company” which was remastered and recently released on DVD
. But for an animation of that time, it looked like an animation of that time. “AKIRA” looked amazing!
The colors were vibrant, I affirm I was noticing background art from the film for the first time and that’s considering that I watched this film probably two dozen times already.
As for audio, this is where Bandai Entertainment has really gone out of their arrangement to develop a agreeable product. Being audiophiles themselves, the paunchy capacity of the Blu-ray disc was weak for the audio. “AKIRA” is the first film on Blu-ray that is released in 192 kHz/24-bit in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound. The highest level of sound quality attainable suitable now on contemporary media.
CD’s are sampled in 44.1 kHz and reproduces at 20 kHz. This Blu-ray is sampled in 192 kHz and reproduces at 96 kHz. CD’s are 16-bit, this Blu-ray Disc, the audio is 24-bit. With that being said, the audio of “AKIRA” is unbiased phenomenal. From the music and the taiko drums, the the various sound effects of the motorcycles to the crowds that are protesting. The film objective comes alive with this soundtrack on Blu-ray and really, was floored by the outstanding quality.
I watched both Japanese and audio soundtracks. A few things I need to let people know is when you recognize the menu being offered in Japanese or English, if you purchase Japanese, you accept four choices of audio. If you take English, you procure only three selections (Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1ch track is not on the English selection but the Japanese menu selection) of audio but I’m distinct that most fans will be listening to the Dolby TrueHD tracks.
Also, another label is that this release features the Pioneer 2001 English audio dub and not the 1991 Streamline dub. Having been subjugated to the Streamline English dub which was poor in my understanding, this Pioneer dub is more to my liking.
With that being said, with the Blu-ray disc focusing so mighty on audio quality and using the Blu-ray disc for that purpose, that would mean that special features that fans were accustomed to on the VHS or DVD release will not acquire on the Blu-ray disc, so don’t toss your DVD’s out objective yet.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The Blu-ray disc was utilized completely for audio, thus there is not great room to save anything else. Included are the two teaser trailers, the TV commercial, two trailers, storyboards (Peaceful images) and a 32-page color booklet.
The 32-page color booklet features 16-pages that go into the science unhurried the creation of the audio for “AKIRA” and “Hypersonic” which is “a medium that allows for the expression of something that was never possible for traditional sound petite to 20 kHz”. Also, an “Interview with Katsuhiro Otomo”, “The Enact Animation That Made AKIRA Shine” and more.
So, missing are the “Production Recount (The Making of Akira) “, “Sound Clip (a documentary of the creation of the soundtrack), director’s interview and the documentary on the Akira restoration that were included on the DVD. So, don’t throw away your dark tin DVD special edition impartial yet.

“AKIRA” will always be regarded as one of the top spicy films of all time. Objective sitting down and hearing the taiko drums, the motorcycles revving, the people talking and to hear the overall soundtrack, it made a huge inequity for me watching it now than any of those times watching it before.
I was amazed by the vibrancy of the colors of the film, but I admit that I was waiting for the dust and the scratches and to my surprise, there were none. They cleaned this film up pleasing suited. So, aside from the great talked about audio, the video is no hurry either.
Last, I know that the direction of the Blu-ray in terms of going for gracious audio quality is inspiring for the audiophile but for those who want the special features that were featured on the DVD or fans of the new Streamline dub have a proper argument for them wanting inclusion of those features. Personally, I cherish releases that managed to include as many features as possible but in this case, having something unprecedented for a film and getting gracious audio quality, it may not matter to casual viewers/listeners but I totally agree with the Japanese reviewers, this original audio makes a enormous incompatibility when you understanding this film on Blu-ray.
So, expedient audio quality versus older special features that probably would be in regular 480p anyway, personally I would rather go with the honorable audio quality. Again, the production picture has been offered on VHS and DVD already (and the DVD release of “AKIRA” was impartial too frosty to bear and by no means will I ever toss that release out) .
What has made me even more wrathful is that the process invested in order to gain this 192 kHZ process on “AKIRA” can hopefully now be primitive on other Blu-ray releases. “Mobile Suite Gundam” movies on Blu-ray anyone? How about those films in 192 kHZ, 24-bit ala Dolby TrueHD. That would be awesome!
So, “AKIRA” has opened up possibilities for Bandai Entertainment and overall, although not loaded with special features, the improved audio and video quality can’t be ignored. Again, “AKIRA” belonged on Blu-ray and it’s a solid release.
What can I say? “AKIRA” on Blu-ray has definitely made me mad for this film all over again. An wonderful Blu-ray release that is simply a must-own!
Akira is one of those movies that you never forget. The images are extremely remarkable and graphic, so that they stick with you long after the movie is over. Despite its sometimes-confusing location line, this movie is a wonderfully written, chilling view into the future, and into humanity as a whole. The movie more or less centers around a teenage biker gang in Neo-Tokyo, thirty-years after World War III. The main characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, are two childhood friends who are constantly in competition with each other (Tetsuo being the weaker, taunted one.) Regardless, Tetsuo collected looks up to Kaneda. As the introduction moves out of the budge scene, an intriguing encounter with an queer looking child (who awakens the physic abilities lying dormant within Tetsuo’s mind) truly begins the movie.

The animation quality in this movie is almost enough of a reason to acquire it. The detail is extraordinary, umparalled even by Disney? s standards. No one background or setting is extinct twice, and the environment is in constant change, be it blinking lights or a person exiting a random building. Oddly enough, the Bladerunner-esque buildings throughout the movie also support to attach the feeling of urgency, and the sensation of teetering on the edge of something expansive, something that we cannot possibly understand. The characters also fade in a realistic, serene motion, something that is missing from many anime television shows, like Pokemon or Digimon.
The music in this movie is also an aspect that really stands out, with a sound all its fill. With this fresh DVD cleanup, you can hear every bell, whistle and drum beat. It sounds more Japanese than most animes out there, and that is not a abominable thing. Every single song fits the actions incredibly well, from the haunting Requiem at the demolish, to the oddly infectious Japanese drums in Kaneda, heard during the motorcycle trek scene and credits of the movie. Hats off to Shoji Yamashiro.
The explain acting is beneficial, but not huge. I feel that the fresh dubbing job extinct grunt actors remarkable better superior to their keen counterparts. For example, Kaneda’s recent bellow actor fit his attitude well, as his train had the same inflection and as a teenage boy’s does. The novel sing actor, however, sounds like an adult trying to state like a teenager. Tetsuo? s boom sometimes sounds a microscopic off too, as the inflection in his words do not always coincide with the action on cloak There is no mention of the novel script or dub however, but there is a minute interview with the English scream actors of Kaneda, Tetsuo, and Kei.

The extras on this DVD are obedient, with detailed information on how the music was created, the bid actors of both the English and Japanese scripts, and it also holds about 4,500 stills from the movie and the entire movie’s storyboard. The menus are easy to follow and understand, and gain brilliant backgrounds with music-sound bites from the movie.
Overall, this DVD is a must have for any Sci-fi or animation fan. It shows the best of what anime has to offer. You will never forget the stunning anecdote, or the unforgettable characters that gain this movie a classic, inside and outside of anime.
Remember though, this movie is NOT for young children and the squeamish. If your child is under the age of fifteen, or if you do not like the glimpse of blood and body parts, the movie is probably not for you.

And of course “Bullitt” is reknowned for it’s now legendary car dart between Frank Bullitt’s 390 GT Mustang and the two hitmen in their murky, Dodge Charger 440 Magnum barrelling through the city streets and highways of San Francisco….unprejudiced don’t pay too remarkable attention to how many times they pass that slow-moving, green VW Beetle!!
The DVD transfer is qualified in both sound and represent quality, and the Cramped Edition Collectors Station with the additional goodies (Single sheet poster, shooting draft, lobby cards etc.) is a staunch bonus for fervent film fans!!
One of my favourite cop thrillers….McQueen sizzles on mask!!
I have read GQ and other men’s fashion magazines for the last 20 years. No single person is mentioned as a men’s style icon more often than Steve McQueen, and this movie defines his style most clearly. What I deem that is not often understood, is why his style is so beloved. It is minimalist, yes, but also, this is someone not playing the middle class America game.
1) He lives in a minute apartment. The furniture is ordinary, with a few hip 60’s touches. (Scrutinize for the record over his bed, his paisley bathrobe, the frosty paper hanging lampshade, and a couple of hippie style items on the walls) . You accept the impression he owns about six pairs of clothes at most. He eats cheap frozen dinners (except for the occasional date at the chilly San Fran Restaurant) . He is not wasting this time and life keeping up with the Jones’s.
2.) He is not climbing the career ladder. On this case, he doesn’t give a concept to politics. He is not chasing the American ideal of success.
3.) Glance closely and you will ogle his car, the most renowned in any movie ever, is a olive drab color. Not candy apple sparkling red. It is a Mustang, a symbol of blue collar America. It is dusty, and he parks it in the street, not a garage. He does not contemplate it for door dings every time he goes out to it. It has dents in it. You obtain the impression he doesn’t use his free time polishing and waxing it.
4.) He doesn’t exercise his time chasing money. He spends it on his job, trying to do what he thinks is legal, not what is suited for office politics and promotion.
5.) His clothes are 60’s pre-hippie fashion perfection (explore for the extremely tapered legs, the suede loafers, and of course the celebrated tweed blazer and blue turtleneck) .

15 year dilapidated Mai Tokiha and her younger brother Takumi have been invited to wait on the prestigious Fuka Academy, a new island school that is administered by its bear attendees. On the ship dash there they meet two of their fellow students. When all the sword-play, shooting, and pseudo-mecha fighting ends in the frenetic first episode, My-Hime brings in a lot of comedy and bishojo elements. While the reveal might not be that unique, the characters more than get up for it, with some genuine acting by the Japanese cast. Everyone enthusiastic has a wide dramatic range, playing not only the action, but the comedy to the hilt and reminds me a bit of Pudgy Metal Apprehension in feel. The designs and animation are improbable, but once again it is the characterization that makes this explain tick. The only anguish I can glimpse in this exhibit is that it could have the potential to descend into the “Monster Battle of the Week” formula, but with some clever writing this first volume avoids that. MY-HIME (aka MAI-HIME) revolves around Mai Tokiha, a teenage girl who has received a scholarship to the prestigious Fuka Academy. While traveling there with her dinky brother (who also has a scholarship) aboard a ferry, they dwelling a girl floating face down in the ocean. The girl is rescued and revived — but what’s with that mysterious sword she’s clinging to?
Soon all hell breaks loose as another girl boards the ship intent on eliminating the rescued female. Clearly these are no ordinary girls as they both openly indicate spectacular superhuman powers. Somehow Mai gets caught in the middle of the battle and before long she is showcasing her possess heretofore untapped superpowers.
From thereon, MY-HIME plays like your typical “cute teenage girls with superpowers” anime as Mai arrives at Fuka Academy and has to balance her banal school life with the revelation that she is no ordinary human being, and neither are some of the other girls at the school. But impartial when you mediate you’ve got things all figured out, the spot takes one unexpected turn after another.
For the first few episodes, MY-HIME does a credible job of introducing a various assortment of characters and mixing together equal parts comedy, drama, romance and action. Mai is a very likeable lead character who earns viewer sympathy by the scheme she cares for her sickly younger brother Takumi, who has heart problems.
MY-HIME is a vivid and eclectic anime series that was highly favorite in Japan and spawned a sequel of sorts called MAI OTOME. MY-HIME consists of 26 episodes, which will likely be spread over 7 DVDs. I’m giving the first disc only three stars (I’d give the entire series 4 stars overall) because the initial episodes are light and inviting (one episode features a monster that steals girls’ underwear), but more laughable than memorable. If you are a fan of anime like PROJECT A-KO or SCRYED or SCRAPPED PRINCESS, then MY-HIME should be suitable up your alley. Although not as unlit or gory as ELFEN LIED (another “cute teenage girls with superpowers” series), I found it vastly fine in terms of storytelling and character development.
In the second half of the series, the expose takes a decidedly darker turn as more and more revelations pour out and the characters are faced with making some life altering decisions. It is then that MY-HIME turns into a truly colossal anime, albeit one that is slightly let down by a rather cheesy finale.
The collector’s box for Vol. 1 is a disappointingly cheap anxiety from Bandai. It’s thin and flimsy, and likely to collect damaged during shipping. Unless you really want the T-shirt that’s included with the box, you’re probably better off objective buying the cheaper standalone DVD release.

How does he do it? Well, as I said, it’s an acting lesson. Suffice it to say he rightly deserved winning the Oscar.

Magnificent in every respect.
I have loved this movie since I saw it in its fresh release too many years ago. Certainly, Sir Thomas More was a graceful person who died a martyr and has been canonized a saint. However, don’t confuse the play and movie with the flesh and blood man. He was distinguished more complex in accurate life than the purely well-behaved performance of Paul Scofield. You can read the biography of Thomas More by Peter Ackroyd to accumulate at some of his complexities.
But this is a improbable movie and I recommend it with gargantuan enthusiasm. It is a worthy movie and can have some useful at least temporary curative accomplish on the soul suffering under the ironical detachment and cynicism of our time. Guinness plays Professor Marcus, who puts together a gang to pull off the “perfect” robbery he has concocted. But, as it always is with all things “perfect,” it rapidly goes awry for the gang, thanks to the involvement of an ragged lady (Katie Johnson), in whose house Marcus has taken rooms. And as the dwelling in which the gang finds themselves escalates as they try to save things to rights, the audience is treated to an exemplary allotment of truly funny and memorable cinema. Guinness anchors the farce with a suited characterization (even to altering his appearance with groundless teeth) of the Professor. “The Ladykillers” is regarded as the last of the mammoth Ealing comedies and another macabre dismal comedy in the style of “Kind Hearts and Coronets.” However, I had picked up the film because it had both Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers and was therefore rather surprised that the one doing all the scene stealing is Katie Johnson as Mrs. Wilberforce, a sweet tiny worn lady who makes it a daily practice to go round to the local constable’s place each day to maintain them apprised on what is happening in the neighborhood. Amazon’s has it all suitable in their comments on this underrated, wonderfully acted, and glowing treatment of our fresh education system that all too often gives up on what it considers the “undesirables” demonstrate in every school, the teachers who reflect that they know it all (both villain and heroine in this film), and the kids who enjoy that they have no reason to even try to expose others outrageous.
The dialogue is blisteringly realistic, sensitive, insightful, and painfully fair most of the time. In many ways there are no steady villains in this film although there are two specific teachers who attempt to give Swank’s character pains either because she is attempting to succeed where others have failed, or because she thinks she is better than others or has the key to her students’ success if others would honest derive out of her intention. It’s easy to explore the primitive teachers’ resentment for Swank as Gruwell. She is brash, naive, overconfident, obsessive, and appears to want to outshine her colleagues although that really isn’t her intent, but one can leer how a outmoded teacher would glance her as a threat to their place which they feel, and rightly so to some degree, have earned. As a 17 year obsolete teacher myself I understand those customary teachers in the film, but I also select being Gruwell’s age with all its enthusiasm, shakey confidence, and out to display something mentality. She appears to only be focused on her mission and her kids and while that can be praiseworthy, it can be narrow-minded and heartless too. Sadly, her obsessive nature causes her marriage to collapse. She NEVER sees that coming and that is all the more dark as it shows how clueless she is regarding her believe actions while so easily condeming others. In the kill, neither Gruwell or her husband really comes off as the “unpleasant guy” at the raze of that relationship although people are travel to seize sides. I believe he’s comely shallow and archaic for not standing up for himself or his marriage more until it hits a point of no return. There is plenty of fault to go around.
This is compelling film making and my wife and I talked for hours after viewing this film as she recalls my early days in education and how I am now after years of battling and bowing to belligerent parents who never occupy their kid could do any noxious, abusive and manipulative students who know the system is mostly on their side now, condescending administrators who absorb they have the answers when they are no longer even in the classroom environment, and demonizing politicians who always witness us as the reason for all the ills in society. To add insult to injury after many years of dedication, recent young teachers often approach in displaying miniature respect to veterans as they gape others not giving us respect. It’s murky that they so often don’t peep their futures in us.
I praise current young teachers like Gruwell and world experienced but fresh teachers like Jamie Escalante (Stand and Recount) and all such teachers who battle the odds to develop a inequity in the lives of their students. If anyone gets anything out of this film, I would hope it’s a sense that all deserve respect. Films in this genre all too typically demonize the venerable teachers as has-beens who have objective given up, praise the young upstart regardless of their flawed attitude at times, and set students on the same playing field as adults which they are not. This film breaks this genre’s stereotypes quite a bit. I felt sincerely sorry for the disenchanted and disrespected veterans even though they were combative and jealous. I felt spacious respect and empathy for the young modern teacher, Gruwell, for trying to develop a obvious change, but upset with her condescending and self-absorbed, callous attitude at times toward her colleagues and husband. I, lastly, felt astronomical compassion for the students portrayed in this film who all too often society feels are “throwaways.”
This is the kind of film that lingers in your mind long after the viewing of it is over. This film is worth renting if not owning. Like.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I went through a lot of tissues in this movie. Not because it’s black (although there are a few black parts here and there), but because it’s so enthralling and heart warming. It took me too long to obtain around to watching this and I’m sorry for that, but now that I’ve seen it, it’s definately a recent favourite of mine and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It’s based on fact and what a teacher, Erin Gruwell, does to turn around a class of kids who seem helpless. It’s far better than Higher Learning or Hazardous Minds. It’s got a wonderful cast in it and they all did such a tremendous job. Hillary’s character starts out a exiguous niave because she thinks from the begin that it’s going to be a fragment of cake to scream this class English. However, soon after they approach at the first lesson, she sees it’s going to be an uphill battle. A dinky on in the movie, after she sees a drawing someone drew of a gloomy student, she begins to salvage them thinking about how these actions can engage their toll, by refering to the map Jews were drawn in newspaper cartoons attend in the beginning of the Nazi uprise. These kids have never heard of the Holocaust and she overtime, helps them recognize what Jews faced when the Nazi’s took over Germany and other parts of Europe (she takes them to the Simon Weisenthal Museum of Tolorance) and she plays games with them where they divide into two sides of the room and advance to the center of the room for each thing they have in approved (such as whether they’ve lost someone they adore in gang violence, or whether they have the same music taste) . Soon they spy that it doesn’t matter if they are Dismal, White, Hispanic or Cambodian – they are all so similar in so many ways and they shouldn’t let speed divide them.
You HAVE to look this lustrous movie. It’s so uplifting and keen, that you’ll no doubt admire it as mighty as I did. It’s such a grand movie and ALL school kids across the world should be made to glimpse this in classes at school. I cherish it.

If you liked the current Unfamiliar COUPLE – slob and compulsive neatnik thrown together in the same apartment – or HEAVEN KNOWS, MR. ALLISON – tough guy WWII Marine marooned on an enemy-held South Pacific island with a comely nun, then you should delight in FATHER GOOSE starring Cary Grant, Leslie Caron and Trevor Howard. I saw it once again on the telly this past weekend while doing the ironing, and I’m fortunate to be musty enough to have an appreciation of all three films.
Grant is Walter Eckland, an antisocial, unkempt escapee from “civilization” that spends his time bumming around the South Seas on an faded yacht. At the initiate of WWII, he’s coerced into service as a “cruise watcher”, an observer stationed on a remote island as a lookout for Japanese planes or ships, by the wily and dry-witted local Royal Navy authority figure, Comdr. While admittedly laughable entertainment, FATHER GOOSE is a appetizing romantic comedy that doesn’t, like some of the original Tinseltown offerings, rely for laughs on sensitive body parts being caught in zippers, bodily fluids masquerading as hair gel, or carnal knowledge of apple pies. This film has Class, chiefly due to the presence of Grant, who character demonstrates more suavity unshaven and without socks than any one of today’s nick of male actors dressed up in a tux. (Perhaps only Sean Connery, Robert Redford and Paul Newman are conclude to being in the same league.) Perhaps my high savor for this film is more a function of nostalgia. But there’re a lot of other films from that same period of my youth that are eminently forgettable, so I have to consider that FATHER GOOSE is a chop above.
Cary Grant is cast as Walter Eckland in this very comical classic comedy. His normal sexy leading man characteristics are downplayed to let his comedic genius shine through. He stars opposite Leslie Caron cast as Catherine Freneau. They are an accident waiting for a plot to happen at their first meeting, and it objective gets worse from there. Walter is bribed and threatened into service as a watcher in WWII. Catherine is a diplomat’s daughter given the responsibility of escorting several school children into a safer spot. When they are all stranded together, the hilarity, and battle of the sexes begins.

There are distinct roles that are inextricably linked to their portrayors. Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Yul Brynner as The King of Siam, Ethel Merman as Madame Rose, and, of course, Rosalind Russell as Auntie Mame. Rosalind Russell was, in my view, a class act. The lady had style, warmth, modesty, and a large acting talent, particularly in comedy, especially the fast-talking kind. Definite, she had some career misfires, such as her unconvincing Jewish mama in “A Majority of One”, and her “slumming society dame” Madame Rose in “Gypsy”, but Roz reigned supreme in comedies such as “The Women”, “His Girl Friday”, and, of course, “Auntie Mame” which, having created it on Broadway, it became HER signature role. Her performance is recorded for generations to reach in this delighful film. Also on hand from the unusual Broadway cast are Peggy Cass as the frumpy, would-be butterfly Miss Gooch, and Jan Handzlik as 9-year-old Patrick Dennis, who comes to live with his madcap aunt. Add to this the fantastic, acid-tongued Coral Browne (she would become, years later, Mrs. Vincent Effect!), attractive and racy Patric Knowles and Forrest Tucker (who is extremely charming in this, possibly his best role), showbiz vets Fred Clark, Lee Patrick and Willard Waterman as Mame’s snobbish betes noirs, and the largely unsung Joanna Barnes as grown-up Patrick’s unbearable, shallow fiance. Her performance, replete with annoying, Gloria Vanderbilt-like accent, is one of those broad performances where you laugh at her and hate her at the same time. The costumes, by Orry-Kelly, are grand – classy/crazy creations that are comely as well as inflamed. The same can be said about the ever-changing decor of Mame’s Beekman Status duplex-from Japanese to Moderne to Louis XIV to library chic to 50s recent to East Indian-well, there you have it! And, of course, there is the incredible Betty Comden/Adolph Green script, which is rotund of so many quotable lines that it has become fragment of my friends’ and mine lexicon! The film is a limited episodic, but who the hell cares? I definitely grasp this film to the sadly unfunny, leaden musical version with Lucille Ball. I savor Lucy, too, but “Mame” was not for her. Auntie Mame is one of my celebrated heroines. She is a woman tubby of adventure, fun, style, even a petite bitchiness, but she is not mean. She has a ample, kind heart and is not a “money” snob or a “social-order” snob. Every parent should originate their children stare this film-mine did, and am I tickled! Roz rules!

The injurious “production code” was mild somewhat in force when AUNTIE MAME was filmed, and consequently several of the play’s most renowned lines had to be re-written–but this scarcely gets in the plan of Russell and company, and director DaCosta offers a lustrous compromise between the art of cinema and the “station portion” nature of the stage present. The production values are rich, the gain is memorable, and everything about the expose is a great amount of fun; by the time it ends, you’ll wish that Auntie Mame was yours.

Although there were a few minutes when I felt the film had been slightly cropped, the DVD version offers a visually glorious print of the film in its new ratio, and the sound is quite salubrious as well. The few extras are nothing to assure of–but frankly, it hardly matters: this is one film you’ll be satisfied to have on DVD, for you’re likely to wear out a VHS in short order. If you need a favorable laugh, especially one with a slightly satricial edge, you’ll worship AUNTIE MAME from inaugurate to execute. One of my approved films, and strongly recommended.
