STARRBOOTY starring RuPaul is a sick, crooked, and utterly extraordinary film. As Starrbooty, RuPaul reminds that she is the right Supermodel of the World. She works it, pouts it, and pounds it–it’s truly a glimpse to spy. The state? Well Starrbooty must keep her niece from the clutches of Annaka Manners. Along the plan there’s a lot to do and be done…all with plenty of chubby frontal from some of gratified porn’s finest leading men.

The film is trashy camp–a astounding genre of film for the freaks of the world. The dialouge is pudgy on cheese, remarkable of it pays hommage to films of the past, a apt camp marker. The makeup and costumes are improbable, with RuPaul and cast wearing each with ease.

It’s hard to disect this film, and it’s valuable un-reviewable. It’s rotund of sex, violence, and is not superior for the faint of heart. “Starrbooty” is also essentially satisfied cinema but hopefully out hetero counterparts will earn some sense of humor in this camp coated masterpiece.

Hilarious and filled with tacky fun this movie is a grand time sterling time. When I saw this at a film festival I was not expecting a ample movie but I was blown away by their ticket of humor, it worked. Like how the whole cast makes fun of everything including themselves. Worship the air of innocence the movie has even though the actor(s) were not acting innocently there is something cute and cuddly about the movie after leaving I felt like I honest saw THE GOONIES for the first time kind of reminiscent. This made me wonder why life is not simple and fun at the same time, who cares if people acquire offended. Also Rupaul looks graceful as always.

In the same map that it was involving for “Tongues Untied” to be keep on DVD, this is too truly a big day. Fans of Marlon Riggs are obvious to earn nostalgic seeing this. This work is about the diversity in the African-American community, spoken in metaphor as a gumbo. But it is also a memoriam of Riggs made during his last days. Some people may be disquieted by the heavy Rainbow Flag influence here, but you should know what you’re getting into if you have heard of the frail Riggs. While there are militant heroes like Angela Davis here, there are other interviewees, that if you knew more about them, you may survey them as selloutish. For those of us who saw this in the 1990s, it will be provocative to notice it again and quiz whether it has stood the test of time. For example, HAART medications, 9/11, the DL, and many other phenomena have altered how we glimpse at identity categories in the unusual millenium. I do recommend this vital documentary for all alive to viewers.

This movie/ documentary was improbable. Marlon Riggs, wanted us to understand that there is not one solid protest nor, is there plot to be shaded. Dim unprejudiced is. Sunless is a mixture of many races, histories, sexualities. In other words, we advance in different shades and have different ideas. What has made us “shadowy” is our history here in American. Through out this film, I realized how freeing is it to not allow the majority to screech for me or declare my narrative. However, more often than not, we’re marginalized and some of us like/accept it as fact. He wanted to combat this. We are not totally represented in the media and some of us like it that method too. He challenges his acquire communities homophobia and sexism with flourish that will develop you ask, are you really who you mediate you are and where and how did you arrive to that conclusion. This was his last film and it’s a pleasing gift that he left for all of us, who feel like we’re “outside the pail” and that we’ll never be able to join or turn away from the larger group that we are apart of. He reminds us all that it is not okay to be follower and sit help remain quiet. He wanted someone to stand up and enlighten. So, he did. Thank you Marlon.

24 Season Four has Jack facing mid-eastern extremists. The position is solid (as is the acting) and the action is objective expressionless awesome. As accepted to 24 however, there are a lot of things that happen that are quite frustrating :p. But really this is a grand season of 24 and worth watching whether you are a fan or not.

I took my interest in 24 at the initiate of the sixth season, but once I saw the first 2 episodes, I immediately got twisted. From a website that a friend gave me, I watched Seasons 1 through 5 in 20 days! It started out on average of six, and then with Seasons 4 and 5, I plowed through it because I simply couldn’t terminate. Now that I spy befriend, I shall say with fleshy confidence, that Season 4 is the greatest season in the entire series of 24.

Season 4 is a day starting at 7:00 AM with a voice bombing, and ending with Jack Bauer’s “death.” The numerous terrorist attacks that occur throughout the day are the handwork of one man with the cunning, intelligence, and determine for Bauer to match. Arnold Vosloo plays the incandescent terrorist mastermind Habib Marwan who is the engine slow all the attacks that occur on that one day. The divulge bombing at 7:00 AM, the kidnapping of the Secretary of Defense and his daughter at 8:00 AM, the meltdown of 6 nuclear power plants across the nation, the shooting down of Air Force One, and the nuclear warhead launched from Iowa to a major city in the country. It seems impossible for all this to happen in one day, but this is piece of the genius late Season 4, as well as the genius of Habib Marwan that he was able to thought it all out, and nearly succeeded in his attempts.

What I esteem about Season 4 is more than unprejudiced the action and pulse pounding suspense throughout and the surprise ending. I appreciate the main characters in the note – Jack Bauer, Tony Almeida, James Heller, Curtis Manning, Habib Marwan, David Palmer, Paul Raines, and of course Chloe O’Brian. More importantly however, I fancy the overall genius late the season. We live in a nation that up until 9/11, had not been attacked since Pearl Harbor. The overall casualty list of 9/11 and Pearl Harbor is somewhere around 3000 people. This is not to undermine these attacks, being a tragic and detrimental loss to our mammoth nation as they were, but I’d like you to mediate about this. However in retrospect, Habib Marwan makes Osama Bin Laden ogle like a pawn in a game of Chess. Can you imagine if Marwan was trusty, and if his attacks had actually succeeded without Jack Bauer and his awesome allies? This nation would never recover. The nation would be humiliated by the public televised execution of the Secretary of Defense and the shooting down of Air Force One. This nation would be forever scarred by the reactor meltdowns throughout the country and the snort devastation of Los Angeles. That nuclear warhead would have wiped out the entire city – a city which consists of over 9 million people, and the radiation in the places that are hit would obtain those areas uninhabitable for almost a century. That’s what I admire about Season 4.

Thank god for people like Jack Bauer and those who help their country with pride and honor, to grief about their allotment of the reward only after the job is done, and to attach their occupy lives in front of others to protect the innocent from those who ogle to kill us. Obviously there is no trusty Jack Bauer in this country, but his heroism is depicted at its best in Season 4, and his heroism is reflected by those in the military, firefighters – like the ones who went into the collapsing World Trade Center to rep people out, policemen who fight crime every day, and people who hold a constant peek over the security of the greatest nation on the face of the earth. This season isn’t to build any political statement even if it may seem apparent or even prudent to do so; this season isn’t to try and explain torture and condone lawyers who defend clients who are clearly guilty, nor is this season trying to display Arabs and Middle Easterners as the distinct enemy. This season is a depiction of American heroism at its best in the face of sizable harmful and difficulty, and this season is a intelligent epic with a very bittersweet ending that leads straight into the awesome Season 5.

24 is my all time celebrated series on Television and Season 4 is my celebrated season so far, and probably always will be unless Seasons 7 or 8 manage to top it. I hope this review was qualified to you all, and I hope that those who explore the exhibit will continue to stare it to the destroy and perhaps pull some friends into the fun as well. Thanks for reading this, God Bless You, and God Bless the United States of America.

The unhurried Stanley Kubrick, the only major filmmaker Lynch has cited as a vow cinematic influence, believed that ERASERHEAD was one of the most perfect “cinematic experiences” created to date. This movie has enjoyed success on the midnight movie circuit for years, particularly in NYC where it ran almost every night for something like five years straight. I’ve seen it on tall and exiguous screens in three different states. Insofar as interpretations are concerned, I’ve long since tossed all that out the window. In terms of rational comprehension, ERASERHEAD is the fabled tall fish that remains brilliantly elusive of any attempts to prefer it.

This movie gets better, and more comic, every time I eye it: in my thought – ERASERHEAD is the cinematic experience that comes the closest to capturing “dream logic”, next to the equally vivid WAKING LIFE. If you ever rep the chance, contemplate ERASERHEAD in a movie theater with a immense sound system – you will understand why Stanley Kubrick was moved enough to fabricate his statement. It’s like experiencing someone else’s dream – the ultimate act of voyeurism? As if I was granted audience to a demonstration of elegant brain surgery, and catching glimpses of the patient’s face throughout the operation (particularly the opening scene) . It creates such a visceral landscape with its sunless, irregular selections of image and sound, that it seems to be constantly reminding you that the “soul” is helplessly sloshing around somewhere inside an organic bag of blood, bone, hair follicles, industrial shrapnel, dirt piles and antique radiators; a unsightly and pleasing delineation of a living creature suddenly made aware of its hold being (birth imagery abounding) . It is a perfect symphony of sound and image, unbelievable work for a first time feature film director! I’ve seen this movie placed in the Fear allotment at local video stores; it’s better generous for the COMEDY fragment, I dismay. The movie was created on the AFI campus in California; production beginning his last year there, and continuing on for several more years in secret. Not for everyone, but certainly worth a explore.

I occupy a copy of ERASERHEAD on DVD, finally. It is available at David Lynch’s website for forty-five bucks plus shipping and handling. Remastered sound and image, includes a few extras – the standout is a “stylized” interview with Lynch about the making of the film, the characters enthusiastic and anecdotes.

BTW – where is WILD AT HEART and LOST HIGHWAY for our DVD pleasure?

WHEN will they re-release this masterpiece on video and DVD? This film is purest Lynch. It isn’t a movie, it’s an experiance. David Lynch himself said that he didn’t so mighty contemplate of Eraserhead, than feel it. Never have I heard a more good statement. ‘Eraserhead’ is Atmosphere with a capital A, and contains some truly unnerving moments that arrive straight out of our darkest nightmares. David Lynch is a honest artist. To sight Eraserhead is to be totally absorbed into another world; Henry and his bizarre hairdo; the gentle yet strangely disturbing Lady in the Radiator; and last but not least, the repulsive ‘Baby,’ a truly grotesque small monster who is more evil than any other man-made creature in motion represent history. (Lynch has refused to say how he created the Baby….IF he made it, that is. CREEEEEEEEEEEEPYYYYY! ) There is an unrelenting sense of menace and panic throughout all the proceedings. Some may huff and dismiss ‘Eraserhead’ as an ‘artsy-fartsy’ flick intended for the smallest film cults. ‘Eraserhead’ is not cult; it’s timeless. If only Lynch would form another film of this magnitude and purity. Maybe he unexcited will.I gaze forward to the re-release of this ignored classic with sizable anticipation.

Have you ever had to communicate with someone on a different wavelength as you; for example because he speaks a foreign language and you don’t have an interpreter, or because he is unable to communicate verbally at all, or maybe impartial because you retain misunderstanding each other? If so, you know what a frustrating experience it is to have virtually no control over the status and over making certain that you’re actually understood. And in precisely this location finds himself Charlie Babbitt (Tom Flit), personification of the 1980s’ yuppie, a stale car dealer with major money problems whose only – tentative – personal attachment is to his original girlfriend Susanna (Valeria Golino) . Because having learned that except for a few rosebushes and a vintage 1949 Buick Roadmaster his recently-deceased father has left virtually all of his mighty fortune to his autistic brother Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) – a brother he didn’t even know he had – Charlie decides to kidnap Raymond from the Cincinnati facility where he lives, acquire him to California, and quiz half the inheritance in exchange for his brother’s return.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rain Man! Click Here

Now, Charlie isn’t the greatest communicator himself; at least as far as listening goes; he is broken-down to talking people down, and if that alone doesn’t do the trick, he starts to yowl. This, however, fair doesn’t work with Raymond, who lives in a world of his acquire and, unable to bellow emotion in any other diagram, falls into a nervous tic when feeling threatened. So for the first time in his life Charlie has to learn to salvage another human being for what he is, and work *with* his bewildering methods of communication rather than against them. And subtly, very subtly, Charlie begins to change, until at last he no longer wants to relinquish custody of Raymond even after having been offered a huge amount of money: because now money is no longer an narrate at all; now it’s all about excellent worship for a newly-found brother and very special person.

“Rain Man” is ostensibly told from Charlie’s perspective; through his, the “normal” guy’s eyes we peek Raymond’s habits, tics and weird behavioral code. And even if Charlie is easy enough to snub for his superficiality and materialism, his frustration at his inability to communicate with his brother feels expedient and is something we can empathize with(albeit perhaps inadmittedly) . Tom Flee plays Charlie with a finely-tuned mix of audacity and reluctant emotion; turning a role that seems to commence out as unprejudiced another Skim cliche into a character who hesitantly comes to realize his have complexities and shortcomings and learns to like sensitivity, compassion and appreciate – yet, without ever taking the role that treacherous step too far into sentimentality.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rain Man! Click Here

Still, necessary as Charlie’s character is for this movie’s chronicle, this is from first to last Raymond’s story; and by the same token Dustin Hoffman’s, because the two individuals are in fact inseparable: As Hoffman once explained in an interview, he rejects the thought that acting is merely about playing a role, or that the term “my character” could ever appropriately picture his near to a role; emphasizing that in every portion he plays, he truly has to *become* the individual in put a question to to fully be able to understand and recount him. As such, his achievement with Raymond Babbitt is breathtaking indeed; for in a role which not only imposes severe limitations on his ability to communicate traditionally but also gives him virtually no opportunity to whine emotion, he conveys Raymond’s frailties, unexpected strengths and, significantly, his profound humanity in a manner that lets you forget you’re even looking at a portion of acting, thus accomplishing that rare feat only attained by the greatest of actors – and even among Dustin Hoffman’s spectacular performances, this one stands out in particular. (He did, of course, derive both the Oscar and the Golden Globe for this movie; but somehow even the industry’s highest awards don’t inaugurate to order the significance of his achievement.)

Raymond Babbitt’s character was based on several real-life autistic persons; and at a time when puny was known about the condition even in the medical community, contributed substantially to a greater thought of those afflicted with it. Not all autistic people are so-called “savants” like Raymond, i.e. beget genial mathematic or other abilities within the shell separating them from the outside world (and conversely, not with all of them that shell is as thick as in Raymond’s case; although intricate routines do tend to play a rather famous role) – so don’t go rushing off with them to Vegas for an exhaust in “counting cards,” at least not before you’ve verified that they can memorize entire phone books (at least up to the letter “G”), count the toothpicks in a pile on the floor with one notice of an inspect and decide the square root of a four- or five-digit number within a matter of seconds without so great as looking at an electronic calculator. Chances are you’d do them immense injure, not to mention accomplish a complete fool of yourself.

Dustin Hoffman reportedly fought hard for this movie’s production even after several directors (including, inter alia, Stephen Spielberg) had bowed out; and in one of those rare un-Hollywood-like moments even managed to enjoy the movie’s sense of authenticity up to the very ruin by prevailing on the writers to fall the projected ending, which would have had Raymond staying with Charlie. – In addition to Hoffman’s awards, “Rain Man” received the coveted Oscars for Best Movie, Best Modern Screenplay and Best Director (Barry Levinson, who also played the psychiatrist called upon to evaluate whether Raymond is fit to end with Charlie), plus a number of other American and international awards. For once, the industry collectively got it just. But even if this movie hadn’t received a single award, it would unexcited remain one of modern film history’s greatest and truly unforgettable moments – definitely, it would.

In response to the movie “Rain Man”, I felt that the role played by Dustin Hoffman (Raymond Babbitt) was amazing. Dustin Hoffman is a substantial actor as the Rain Man, and demonstrates incredibly well how an autistic person reacts towards determined things as well as changes in his routine life. He captures autism in such a contrivance that you could actually maintain in his performance. I was amazed at the arrangement he was able to pull off this role.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rain Man! Click Here

Tom Cruise’s role (Charlie Babbitt) was equally as lustrous, who is the villain of the memoir who undergoes such a absorbing change that it’s almost not visible until nearly the extinguish. Charlie is shown to be a selfish and greedy jerk at the beginning of the film, but as mentioned before, his slack concept of his brother’s disability, and extra abilities, are what eventually leads to the grasping of a strong relationship with his brother. Tom Waft, in my conception, was perfectly apt for the flashy, egotistical character of Charlie, and I believe he did a immense job.

Furthermore, the directing of the film was dazzling, for the most fragment honest letting the action unfold, which is exactly the arrangement it should have been done. I also possess that “Rain Man” portrays many aspects of autism quite well. The movie is an introduction to autism for most people who recognize it for the first time. In summary, Charlie Babbitt, played by Tom Flee, is a self-centered car dealer, and leaves on vacation with his girlfriend Susanna, played by Valeria Golino. However, on route with his girlfriend, he unfortunately learns that his father who threw him out as a teenager has passed away, and decides to reveal up at his funeral for only one reason, to accept the money his father left tedious. Upon arriving for the funeral, Charlie learns that his father left him a now antique convertible, which he originally loved and wanted in his teen years, but which his father never let him drive. Unfortunately for Charlie, he can’t gain the money which he truly desired, since he discovers that it has been given to a mental institution Charlie is unaware of. Charlie therefore decides to grasp matters in his gain hands and goes to the institution to get out what their connection with his father was. It is only then that he learns that he has a broad brother by the name of Raymond, played by Dustin Hoffman, who is autistic and lives in this institution. Charlie tries to convince the manager of the institution to let him have the money, since his brother can’t do nothing with it because he doesn’t even understand the opinion of money. The manager of the institution refuses to give him the money, because he promised Charlie’s father that he’d compose definite to leave it to Raymond no matter what happened. Charlie is inflamed by what has happened and by his father keeping Raymond’s existence from him his entire life. As a result, Charlie takes Raymond out of the institution without the permission of the manager, and this is how Charlie gets to know his gargantuan brother Raymond. The two open a long road creep that will lead them to an thought of each other, and I possess that this walk across the country was the commence in the relationship between the two brothers.

This movie was very emotional at some times, and had it’s droll moments as well. I possess that “Rain Man” is truly a work of art, and a film that everyone can view, understand, and savor.

I’ve allways been a fan of Clive Barker’s Masterpiece “Hellraiser” and its awsome sequel. Both are featured on this colossal DVD Box Place and after almost 15 years of age, “Hellraiser” has lost not a bit of its gothic art, grisly fright and gory cruelty.

But I’m a petite bit disappointed by the technally realisation of this DVD. Both Movies are presented in there theatrical ratio of 1.85:1 and in fat frame. “Hellbound” ist in the widescreen mode exactly the same as in the beefy frame presentation, but matted with gloomy bars. “Hellraiser” appears to be the 1.66:1 version also matted with shadowy bars to note the 1.85:1 format. Compared to Anchor Bays “Halloween” Box, this is a leap wait on in the production of odd DVDs.

Never the less, “Hellraiser” is always worth buying and if it was impartial for the bonus material like the commentary of Clive Barker, Peter Atkins, Ashley Lawrence etc. The Movies are quiet sizable classics and a creepy draw to devour an dim autum’s evening. Let’s objective hope the next Anchor Bay DVD Box is a bit more like “Halloween”.

_Then it hit me. All of these movies have a “message.” Under all the gore is one central message: “Do not let your flesh execute your spirit.” Mediate about it, every character that is butchered and torn to bits has heavenly well deserved it- it was their weakness and ambition that led them to it. Otherwise the Box would have held no fascination for them…. A spiritually centered being, such as a saint or a shaman, can laugh as he is being flayed by demons (or Cenobites.)

This movie is queer, period. It’s got an Eraserhead vibe (probably from the black/white), and I select up Un Chien Andalou, probably from having no thought what’s coming next. The dim frame corners of the B/W stock also evoke the early parts of The Wizard of Oz, conjuring dismay and foreboding. Other than that, leave your film references tedious, and situation your mind for unusual experience.

You’ve got to examine this film at least twice, ideally a couple weeks apart, before you resolve that it’s the worst film you’ve ever seen (a typical first reaction) . Now, the weirdest movie you’ve ever seen–yeah, that’s a spot-on description-but it’s not the worst, by far. Establish that crucial brand for Madonna’s desecration of Swept Away, John Wayne in The Conqueror, Caddyshack 2.

I saw this B/W classic for the first time in a 1984 university film class. The prof warned us that it was racist, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, violent, extreme and scatological (her words) . And she was and remains exactly honest. I sat through the 73-odd minutes of this thing (shown on film, no less), and when it was over I wasn’t quite definite what I’d seen. I remember a unusual and heavy feeling of awe and confusion that hung with me for a few days, like I’d seen something deeply disturbing but couldn’t yet get sense of it. But I’d also laughed, hard, at a number of the scenes in the film.

It wasn’t until a advantageous ten years later I got my hands on a bootleg VHS copy, and I bought my have copy (signed!) from the Richard Elfman web space two years ago. It was only on second and subsequent viewings that I figured out exactly what the legend was, and then really started to glance the subtlety of the film, to be pleased and appreciate it more.

It opens in the kitchen at breakfast, with the family in intentionally unpleasant stage makeup, sitting in mismatched chairs on a plot with ultra low-budge hand-painted elementary school play backdrops. The psychotic mom gets knocked icy by dad when she talks too powerful. Then they have to tie up Grandpa before the kids go to school. And that’s in the first couple of minutes.

Then school, where the scenes are pure nightmare, unprejudiced chaos, with the grotesque images of the teacher and students, unpleasant caricatures of kids that I knew, and you’ll observe as well. Then in the middle of this highly disorienting scene comes the “Alphabet Song/Swinging the Alphabet,” with the “F” and “G” verses corrupted thoroughly and hilariously.

Then we topple to the underworld and by arrangement of introduction to the Sixth Dimension, leer two guys in jock straps divulge a goofy song in a boxing ring, followed by a frog-headed guy doing some soft-shoe, and a seriously creepy version of “Bim Bam Assure.”

The crass racial and ethnic stereotypes wing in and out, amateurish, really, in their insertion, and having miniature relation to the movie itself. Accurate at the beginning there’s a black-face guy, described as local pimp Huckleberry P. Jones, with his poor suit and boxing gloves, no less. The Hercules patriarch has a horribly dubbed Yiddish accent, and we even rush across Jewish money lenders down in the Sixth Dimension. I don’t really pick up their placement or function in the film, other than visual distraction, or misfiring attempts at comedy.

And some violence. A guy gets shot at school, although it’s pantomime-corny. There is some serious fisticuffs, but it’s also hammy. A knife goes upright through a thigh, but it’s a cheezy finish. But when Grandpa Hercules fights the gorilla he ends up literally bashing its head into ground meat, and that’s a fair disturbing close-up, even in B/W. The queen gets shot, somewhat graphically, with a itsy-bitsy bit of blood. The two queens waste up at the bottom of the pit, their bodies hasten through with steel blades. And Squeezit loses his head, although he doesn’t really die, and the head even sprouts wings to flee around as a cheezy Sixth Dimension mascot.

And some nudity. The excruciatingly nubile Princess wears nothing but tight high-rise briefs, pumps, and gloves for the entire film. There’s a wacky kind of topless cattle drive of young ladies, silly and erotic in its enjoy irregular blueprint. There’s a lot of comically strange/strangely funny frottage going on, mostly Flash and Gramps grabbing various Sixth Dimension denizens. Nothing graphic at all, but the MPAA would call it sexual train.

And fun with trivia: 1) Uber-nerds will explore the Forbidden Zone theme as that from the short-lived Dilbert TV point to from a few years back; 2) Music nerds also will eye an new recording of “Pico and Sepulveda,” which was for many decades the backing/theme song of the Doctor Demento radio demonstrate (The Very Best of Dr. Demento) .

Lastly, salvage that soundtrack (Forbidden Zone) . If you like a apt mix of music, you’ll like the CD. If you’re expecting raw Oingo Boingo, you’ll be disappointed. Determined, they’re there, but not in the kind of depth and orchestration you’re probably looking for. There’s a couple old-timey tunes (“Bim Bam Teach,” “Some of These Days”), lots of Danny Elfman’s recent derive, and the sorrowfully too-short “Squeezit The Moocher.” For whatever dim reason, “Pico and Sepulveda” is not included in this release.

Bottom line: This is fair one of those cult films you have to be able to say you’ve seen. If you’re looking for slick production and deep, deep artistic symbolism and staging, you’ll be hugely disappointed. You may not like it at first, it being more confusing than anything, but if you’ve got an launch mind and tend toward sad humor, and if you explore it more than once, you’ll appreciate it. If you’re looking for something seriously off the wall, a film like none other you’ve ever seen, then this is the one you’ve been waiting for.

Forbidden Zone could be the most eye-openingly bizarre film ever made, surpassing even Eraserhead. The fact that it is cheaply made and often inept is most definitely an asset – in a world this surreal ancient filmmaking techniques would seem out of set. In any case, there is no seek information from that anyone alive to in underground movies needs to hold this. Its dismissal by critics and its unpopularity have both been unfair hamperings on its reputation. In actuality, its artistic vision is as singular and imaginative as Eraserhead’s, or any cult classic for that matter. Rarely has cardboard been the vehicle for such a visionary production effect.

There is so considerable to assume label of – but I would single out the ‘Bim bam boom’ musical number with the mumbling boxers, the inexplicable antics in the classroom, and Danny Elfman’s totally suave appearance as Satan towards the ruin as truly classic moments in the world of cult movies. They manage to be disturbingly surreal and amusingly amusing and cartoonish at the same time. I want to extend my recommendation beyond the intellectuals and outsiders; even more conventionally-minded people may be taken in by Forbidden Zone’s order loopiness and triumphant imagination.

I fully agree with Mr Forsythe from London (Ontario) . If like Mr Maitlin, you believe this movie with the special effects of the 1999, the movie is hokey. But the character, dedication and courage of Ulysse has never been so well portrayed as by Kirk Douglas. Sylvana Mangano doesn’t do worthy, but she portrayed only too well why a man will fight 20 years to return to her and their son. Anthony Quinn gives a aesthetic performance as the suitor. The unusual version with Armand Assante, while proficient in special effects, doesn’t exploit the richness of characters showned in the multi-european film. I have seen this movie in the 1960 and again this year. It is the same emotion and commitment. This is Homer’s Odyssey. If you have not seen this movie, bag your hand on the vidéo. This is a film I would gladly win in VideoLaser disc or the unusual DVD. It is worth the money.

…and that’s putting it mildly! Here Kirk is playing the Greek general Ulysses who spends twenty years away from the bosom of his family, ten at the Trojan War and ten on an ill-fated voyage serve to Ithaca.

Now, when I first came across my brothers watching this video, I couldn’t have my eyes that Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn were in such a cheap-looking movie! Nobody else is an actor or actress of any standing, and the production values are not up to Hollywood standards. Most distressing of all, everyone’s dubbed in, including Kirk!

Once I had gotten over all these obstacles, though, I was able to bask in the movie. Ulysses’ adventures are recounted as a flashback as he recuperates from amnesia in a outlandish kingdom. We eye him outwit the Cyclops, go furious from the siren’s song, and lose all track of time while being enchanted by Circe. Intersperced with Ulysses’ strivings are scenes wait on at Ithaca, where Penelope has all she can do to occupy onto her absent husband’s throne from would-be usurpers vying for her hand. A unique suitor emerges from the pack, played by Anthony Quinn, and he, like Kirk, plays his role straight despite the film’s other limitations. The VERY demolish, AFTER all the bloodshed in the banquet hall, seems to demolish abruptly with Kirk and Penelope talking very like a flash off shroud about how they have to fabricate up for lost time. That looks a dinky, “We have to give the cameras relieve, so let’s ruin it now.”

Still in all, “Ulysses” will entertain you if you let it; it did wonders for me, my brothers, and a two-year-old who wandered into the room and found the Cyclops really titillating.

When Special Effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen received his lifetime acheivement Oscar, Tom Hanks said that anyone who was a boy of 10 in the 1960’s will explain you that “Jason and The Argonauts” is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Jason is here, with the living giant bronze statue, the vicious harpies, and of course the many-headed Hydra and its “children.” Terrific stop-motion fun for all ages. And without the abet of (yawn) computers, you fair have to wonder, “How did he do that? ”

Also in this bundle is Gulliver (eye if you can set June Thorburn, the grandmother from Absolutely Incredible, in an early role), 7th Voyage of Sinbad (’50’s-era innocence with the first dueling skeleton on film, not to mention the future Mrs. Bing Crosby), and Golden Voyage of Sinbad (Dance of death with six-armed goddess Kali and Tom Baker of Dr. Who fame) .

Eye of the Tiger, on the other hand, is of “so abominable its obliging”/MST3000 caliber–with the Duke’s son, Patrick Wayne as So-bad–I mean, Sinbad–and chanteuse Margaret Whiting in her first (and last) dramatic role as the substandard sorceress. And yes, that’s Dr. Quinn/Jane Seymour wondering how she’ll ever live this one down as a buxom princess with a baboon for a brother. I’m not kidding.

An extra treat with this location are the scores for Jason, 7th Voyage, and Gulliver by legendary conceal composer Bernard Herrmann (Citizen Kane, Psycho) . Juicy stuff.

Anybody who likes suited venerable matinee fantasy will want to bear these treats.

Ray Harryhausen is responsible for two of the best fantasty films ever made: Jason and the Argonauts and The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is also a ample film, though not up to the level of the first Sinbad film.

The 3 Worlds of Gulliver is minor and Sinbad and the Survey of the Tiger is a step down from the other two Sinbad films (though peaceful with some grand moments) .

Missing from this collection is another spellbinding if flawed Harryhausen fantasy: Clash of the Titans. It would have been nice to have had that as piece of the space.
